Submissions for the 2024 edition of High Grade are closed. Please contact us if you have any questions.

You will need a Google account to submit your work online.
If you do not have one and don't want to make one, contact us at highgrade [at] mines.edu.

We welcome all genres of original fiction, poetry, photography, art, and music from Mines students, faculty, staff, and alumni. You can refer to the High Grade aesthetic for general style guidelines, as well as the information below on technical guidelines. Want to submit something original not listed? Contact us!

Visual Art

Art pieces must be submitted as a .jpg or .png file (please minimize file compression).

If you're submitting a photo and it's low quality*, you may still submit it, however, we will require a new photograph to be taken should your submission get accepted.

*Low quality refers to blurry and/or <300 ppi photos (as a general rule of thumb, the longer side should be at least 2,000 pixels).

Fiction & Poetry

Written pieces must be submitted as a .docx file (Microsoft Word document).

All pieces should be submitted in 12-point Times New Roman font, left-justified. Fiction pieces must be double spaced, and poetry pieces must be single spaced.

Music

Audio submissions must be submitted as a .mp3 or .wav file.

Samples are not allowed. Music featured in the journal is posted as web-exclusive content to our site and to SoundCloud.

All pieces, regardless of medium, must follow the following three rules:

  • Do not include any identifying information in the title of your piece.
  • Signatures and similar identifying marks within your piece are okay if they do not directly give away your identity.
(this means if someone recognzies your signature/reference, they should already know who you are)
  • Limit five (5) submissions per person, per edition.
